I am, as you have no doubt guessed, obsessed with reflections. Foil balloons reflect light in such a pleasing way; they marble the colours of the world around them. They are both abstract yet recognisable. Above all, they’re playful — and very fun to draw.
After a period away from art, I dusted off a camera and snapped a few pics of this gold balloon in my back garden. Crouching on the lawn, I spent so long angling myself just right so as to avoid being reflected back by the object. But when I embraced my presence, it felt much more interesting. Then, when rendered in pencil, my abstracted figure became a reflection of the observer, an invitation to look closer. This piece is special to me, and I have held it close to my chest - until now.
This piece measures 50x50cm. Bespoke framing before shipping.
